Folklore and fiestas

The festivals of the Alpujarra are influenced by the numerous cultures that have lived in it, characterising the region with a great folkloric richness that has survived until today.

Each town celebrates its Patron Saint’s day with a “romeria”, a town feast where people dance and eat, always together with a lot of fireworks.

About 8 years ago the electricity went out during the New years festivities.
The mayor decided that the “fiesta” must be done again in august.
This was a tremendous succes and ever since they also celebrate it on this saturday in august. Lots of young people from all over Spain come to visit it.

A Must:
On a saturday near to the 15th. of august(Assumption) there is always a “fiesta” organized by the friends of Mecina Bombarón.

On the “Era” above our house they thresh the grain, like in the old days. Everybody is welcome to have a drink and a free meal. In the evening there is dancing on the Plaza Vieja.
